Power Infrastructure - Gone
Outside DWAS studio - 200
MPH winds downed local power
lines through out the province of
Albay. Major feeder lines from
the power backbone were also
destroyed. Power is still off 2
weeks later in all areas, the
main feeder is to be repaired by
Dec17.
Many will be without power for
several months, especially in
more rural areas.
Guys Photos - Station DWAS
Double Typhoon Tragedy at DWAS - Nov/Dec, 2006
The ugly antenna is now very ugly, we hope it still
works, because no one is going to climb it again.
The following represent early coverage of the destruction in Legaspi. Though the studio
sustained broken windows and the antenna was moderately damaged, the station fared
much better than surrounding areas where whole communities were buried in mud flows.
There are 1000's dead, some never to be found. We are working to bring the station back
into operation so that we can begin to minister to the survivors through our radio
broadcasts. Our station in Bacolod has a strong signal in the evening and they are
carrying some of the necessary health and welfare programs until station DWAS regains
its voice.
